Washoe County is accepting applications for persons living in Washoe County who are interested in serving on the Washoe County Regional Animal Services Advisory Board

The Regional Animal Services Advisory Board was adopted by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners in 2016 with the purpose to facilitate communication between community members and the Department to ensure that programs, operations and goals related to the care and safety of animals are consistent with the needs of our community.


The Regional Animal Services Advisory Board comprises seven members with the following makeup: (a) a veterinarian or veterinary technician licensed to practice in Nevada and who is not employed by Washoe County (b) a real estate or business professional with knowledge or experience related to homeowners’ associations, business and or financial operations. (c) a representative from a humane or rescue organization (d) an individual with an interest in promoting the health and safety of animals in Washoe County (e) an elected member of the Washoe County Board of Commissioners (f) an elected member of the Reno City Council (g) an elected member of the Sparks City Council

Time Commitment

The terms for appointed positions (a-d) shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and serve a four year term which expires on June 30th of their respective term. Following the enactment of the initial board and four year term, the terms for board members listed in sections (c) and (d) will serve two year terms. The appointed animal services advisory board members may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms with reappointment. An additional term may be considered if there are not any other interested or qualified applicants.

Meetings are held quarterly. Special meetings may be held as needed.
