 National Award Winning!

The Trust for Public Land (TPL) and National Association of Counties (NACo) recently awarded their Medium County Leadership Conservation Award to the Washoe County Regional Open Space and Natural Resource Management Plan.  Three programs were recognized for their "leadership, innovation, and excellence on local land conservation and park creation initiatives."

**The Washoe County Regional Open Space Program was awarded the 2009 County Planning Award on April 27, 2009 by the National Association of County Planners.**

Washoe County underwent an approximately 18-month planning process that resulted in an update to the Regional Open Space Plan and added a Natural Resource Management component to the plan in 2008.  Staff from Washoe County Department of Community Development and the Regional Parks and Open Space Department led the process.
