Promote Yourself!  Mini Certificate Program


Certificate awarded for successful completion of the following essential employee development courses:

Career Development (6 hours):  Learn how to stay employable by showing others what you can do for them. A Career Portfolio does just that - it reflects the skills, talents, knowledge and strengths you bring to your work. Learn how to develop your own career portfolio and how to use it. 

Understanding the Merit System (2 hours):  What is the Merit System and what are these job-related requirements that need to be followed throughout the selection process? Learn how to understand and navigate through the process. 

Making Connections (3 hours):  Reassess and apply your strengths, skills and personal values to your next job application process.  Learn how to use your personal contacts to help you reach your career goals.

Writing a Resume (4 hours):  Writing/updating your resumes and cover letters and creating a 30 second introduction. Peer review of your resume. 

Acing the Interview (3 hours):  Handling telephone and in-person interviews; preparing for behavior-based interviews and commonly asked questions and practicing interview skills. Role play an interview.

Current Washoe County employees need to register for classes through the online Washoe County Learning Center accessed through the intranet, EWW, Flipside.  Non-county employees should contact hrtraining@washoecounty.us to register for classes.  NOTE: Supervisor approval is required prior to registration.
