Reno, Nevada. June 5, 2014. The Glenn Duncan Science, Technology, Engineering, Math Academy is teaming up with Washoe County to host their second Annual S.T.E.M. Expo this Saturday. The open house career fair gives parents and students a chance to learn about the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Everybody is welcome to check out the various displays and discuss with professionals from NV Energy and University of Nevada, Reno how S.T.E.M. could influence students’ paths into each career field.

Students will have a chance to showcase their talents by working in the new, community garden with Washoe County staff. Washoe County Roads will be on hand as well, hosting a fun, interactive show-and-tell with their giant dump truck and backhoe.

Teachers will have the following activities for children: making moon sand; exploring chemical reactions; learning engineering by building blocks and structures.

The project is part of the Washoe County School District’s Partner in Education program between Glenn Duncan S.T.E.M. Academy and Washoe County.

Washoe County Commissioner Kitty Jung said this is a great opportunity for everybody to learn. “Saturday’s expo gives us another chance to partner with the students and staff at Glenn Duncan S.T.E.M Academy. This is an amazing event that encourages families to roll up their sleeves and plant in the newly constructed community garden.”
