For Immediate Release
Reno, Nevada. July 7, 2014. Washoe County Regional Animal Services is seeking input from the community on proposed changes to the animal control ordinance, Washoe County Code (WCC) Chapter 55.
The existing ordinances were last updated in 2005. Changes to animal laws within the state have been made during the past two legislative sessions and the County is required to amend WCC Chapter 55 with those changes.
To begin this process, an informational meeting will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Washoe County Commission Chambers. The meeting will outline the procedures for animal ordinance changes and provide information to the community. Areas identified for potential code changes include: nuisance regulations (ex. barking dogs); retail sales of animals; trap, neuter and release of feral cats; exotic animals; and dangerous dogs.
During this informational meeting, staff will review how an ordinance is amended, including the process that will be used for public input.
Washoe County Regional Animal Services will also host a series of workshops in August asking the community for input. A final document for presentation to the Board of County Commissioners is planned for October.
