Reno, Nevada. Aug. 15, 2014. Open Washoe is an online community forum created for public input and Washoe County is asking citizens to go there and comment on proposed animal code changes. The County is seeking feedback on the following code areas:

  • Dangerous dogs
  • Retail sales and commercial breeding of animals
  • Nuisance issues (ex. barking dogs)
  • Exotic animals
  • Trap, neuter and release of feral cats

Washoe County Regional Animal Services is also holding several public workshops to get input from the community on proposed changes to the animal control ordinance, Washoe County Code (WCC) Chapter 55. The existing ordinances were last updated in 2005. Changes to animal laws have been made during the past two legislative sessions and the County is required to amend the code with those changes. Animal Services will be hosting a series of public workshops beginning later this month.

What: Two workshops about proposed animal ordinance changes

When: Monday, Aug. 25, at 5:30 p.m., about dangerous dogs and exotic animals.

Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m., about the retail sales and commercial breeding of animals.

Where: Wilbur D. May Center, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park (1595 N. Sierra Street, Reno)

More workshops about other topic areas will be held in September.

A final document for presentation to the Board of County Commissioners is planned for this fall.

Those unable to attend the workshops are encouraged to provide input online at Open Washoe.
