Reno, Nevada. Aug. 27, 2014. Firefighters from Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a report of a structure fire at 373 East 8th Avenue in Sun Valley this morning at 9:46 a.m.

Firefighters responded to 911 emergency dispatcher reports that a woman and her dogs were trapped in the home. Upon arrival, firefighters entered and began searching for the trapped occupant, while also suppressing a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters discovered that the woman escaped out a bedroom window. She was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The extent of her injuries, if any, is not known.

Firefighters also searched for a reported second trapped victim but found nobody.

Firefighters did find the woman’s four dogs and were able to rescue them from the house. Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies secured the owner’s dogs until Animal Control arrived.

The fire was contained to the kitchen. The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to have started near a microwave oven.
