Reno, Nevada. Sept. 3, 2014. Big, beautiful, hot air balloons will fill Reno’s summer sky this week. Thousands of visitors are expected to gather at Washoe County’s Rancho San Rafael Regional Park Friday through Sunday to take in the spectacular sights and sounds of the Great Reno Balloon Race.

Rancho San Rafael Regional Park has been home to the world renowned balloon race since it began in 1982. Boasting 570 acres of pastureland, the park provides a picturesque backdrop as balloons take flight and soar through the crisp, clear morning air.

After enjoying the race, you are welcome to dive into some games and other activities throughout the park. The Wilbur D. May Museum, located at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, will have its annual open house for spectators.

The Museum will be open for special hours on Sept.  5, 6, and 7. The Great Reno Balloon Race, along with several family friendly activities, is free. Visitors can see the new, sesquicentennial exhibit “Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State” along with the permanent museum collection. Kids can test their skills with a scavenger hunt for a chance to win a prize. The museum will also offer free, daily events for kids:
