Mental Health Services
Dr. Joe Haas
Paula Austin, LCSW, Mental Health Counselor
Washoe County Juvenile Services has a Mental Health Team. This team coordinates services for the youth within the juvenile justice system by identifying and addressing their individual needs. While youth are housed at Wittenberg Hall they have the opportunity to speak with the Mental Health Counselor if they choose. The mental health counselor is available 5 days a week for any youth upon request. The Mental Health Counselor is available to all detained children regardless of their mental health status. For those youth with special needs, a meeting is scheduled once a week to plan and coordinate services for that individual youth. Parents are encouraged to call, Paula Austin, at 325-7902 if they have concerns for their child while in detention.
However, if your child is not detained and you have questions, please call your assigned probation officer or 325-7800.
Through a partnership grant with the Reno Rodeo Foundation Juvenile Services was able to obtain Lucy, our new therapy dog. Lucy comes to us as a highly trained canine from Great Plains Dogs located in North Dakota. It is a well known fact that pets can be an important part of a child's life. Lucy is specifically trained to work with youth in a detention setting, and has become a great addition to our Juvenile Services Staff.
