Four-wing Saltbush

Atriplex canescens
Chenopodiaceae family

The Four-wing Saltbush is a hardy desert evergreen shrub. It is highly tolerant of high salt or alkaline soil. It has gray-green leaves and bears seeds with foliage coming off of them, creating wings for further distribution.
It can grow 4-5 feet with wide spreading dense branching.

If it is burned, the ashes can be used as a baking soda substitute, The seeds are the most useful part of the plant when ground into a meal.
The meal can be mixed with other meal to create a flour or it can be mixed with water for a beverage.
