| Juniper is another common evergreen and a favorite of
landscapers.The defining feature of this genus is the scale or needle-like
foliage and the hard, fleshy berries. The main difference between these two
species is their habitat. Juniperus communis is a spreading ground cover, while
the Juniperus scopulorum is an upright tree.
| The berries are edible in very small amounts and are best used as a
spice, often as a pepper subsitute. Berries may be
|useful in treating insulin dependent diabetes. In addition, leaves and
