Q -- What is the Master Plan for Aging Services?

A -- In 2006, a "Strategic Plan for Washoe County Senior Citizens 2006-2016" was created.  It covered a wide range of topics and issues affecting Seniors living in Washoe County.  The Master Plan for Aging Services, which is being developed, will have a narrower scope in order to better serve the most vulnerable seniors living in Washoe County through prioritizing specific topic areas of services, establish specific goals, and state methods to evaluate the progress of the implementation of the Master Plan.


Q -- What are the six areas the Master Plan will focus on?

A -- The six areas will be the following:

  • Health, Caregiving, and Safety
  • Home & Community–based Services / Long-Term Care
  • Civic Engagement
  • Active Living
  • Economic Security / Labor Force Participation
  • Basic Needs
    • Housing
    • Food
    • Transportation

Q -- What are the focus groups and how can I participate?

A -- The focus groups were designed to fill in information gaps about certain senior populations, such low-income, minorities, frail elderly, those who live alone or are 85 years or older. The data collected will complement the Random Sample Community Survey and make sure the Washoe County Master Plan for Aging Services reflects the actual conditions in our community.  To participate please contact:
