SHIP Volunteers offer free one-on-one assistance and counseling with respect to many problems seniors encounter regarding Medicare and supplemental health insurance. The Nevada Medicare SHIP provides services in the following areas:

Information and eligibility on Medicare entitlements, benefits, limitations, Medicaid, QMB (Qualified Medicare Beneficiary), SLMB (Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary), and Coordinated Care Plans - Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), assistance with claims, requests for reconsiderations, and appeal processes for Medicare and Supplemental Insurance.

Volunteer Counselors help sort out what kind of health insurance a person needs and provides inbiased information to assist the consumer in making informed decisions about their health and long term care insurance.

Outreach information to seniors and their families through meetings, seminars, classes, health fairs, senior fairs, and the media.

Referrals and coordination with other state and community services.

Arrangements can also be made for homebound seniors who need personal counseling assistance. Counselors in Nevada are responding to over 1,000 phone calls every month from Medicare Beneficiaries and their families.

SHIP in Nevada is made available by a Federal Grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) and is administered by the Aging and Disability Services Division, Department of Human Resources.
